A Great Summer Season

Iolair is resting at Jabin's Boat Yard close to downtown Annapolis. Our Salty Dawg Maine cruise is behind us. Kel and I had no idea how amazing the Maine coast is, and we would recommend this special place to all. Visit the villages and towns, but don't miss the remote islands of the Maine coast. Our favorite has to be Long Island just southeast of Swan Island. It is hard to imagine a more peaceful and idyllic place than Frenchboro. The lobstermen and women work hard year-round, in the beautiful summers and harsh winters, while the island is protected by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. This is a rugged, and dramatic ecosystem filled with seals, whales, eagles, osprey, porpoises, lobsters, and lobstermen. Over the last two months, Iolair was put to the test. Our systems, equipment, and sailing strategies continue to improve. It's a process and we are always eager to increase our comfort, safety, and the fun factor.

We are heading inland to visit our two sons and parents. Meanwhile, Iolair will receive a few upgrades during September - offshore running backstays, a new autohelm, bottom paint, and secondary winches for the spinnaker and furling lines. We return to the boat in October and prepare for a passage to Antigua in November.
