Saint Francios - Wikipedia lists 10 possible saints named Francios

After a couple of days cleaning the boat, fixing things, and breaking a few more, we left Pointe a Pitre and sailed along the south coast of Guadeloupe for Saint Francios.  We are tucked in behind a reef, listening to waves breaking just 100 meters away. It’s completely dark as I sit in the cockpit and write this.  The splash I just heard was no small creature, and it must be hungry.  Still, this is a nice place with plenty of wind, but flat seas.  We lost count of the nice restaurants around town.  I definitely will not order the Fricasse of Octopus - thought I would like that, but I hate it as much as I hate papaya.  Papaya always tastes like baby puke to me.

The anchorage in St. Francious is tres fantastique. A reef lines the coast so you can tuck your boat in behind it. Clear blue water, swimming, and windsurfing fill our days here.  The town itself is full of fishermen and French chefs - a tasty combination.  Coffee and a croissant for 1.5 Euros - can't complain. We purchased an entire small Tuna at the morning fish market. The fisherman cleaned the fish and cut it into steaks. We'll try to do something Frenchy with it. The marina, on the other hand, is a stinky mess.  The water has no way to escape as the wind and current push into the man-made trap. It's brown like the Chesapeake. We are surprised to learn that most everyone down here pumps their sewage overboard. We have not seen one single pump out station since we reached the Caribbean. Usually, cruisers would do this only if they were 15 miles or more offshore. It is illegal if you are closer. We move through the marina quickly to reach shore.

Tomorrow we’ll hike 7 miles out to a point of land in the Atlantic. There are multiple ringed lagoons lined with beaches and separated by cliffs. The surge creates large waves that have carved the rock into caves and overhanging ledges. Southeast of here is an uninhabited island called Petit Terre.  It is a protected marine park 10 miles off the coast and considered some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Caribbean. We will visit for the 2 day limit with Iolair on one of their 5 mooring balls.  Stay tuned.

We'll continue to look for our next internet hostage. I'll add pictures to these posts then.
