Normally, we would keep our distance from the wild creatures we encounter snorkeling. In the turtle sanctuary, they ask you to stay six feet away unless the turtle approaches you. This green turtle came directly at me and looked me in the eye.  We swam together for 10 precious minutes. When you see one disappear into the blue at full speed, you understand sticking around is completely up to the turtle.

only small boats can get inside the reef
