Splash 2019

We had a great time stateside - visiting with family, seeing dear friends, biking, hiking, surf fishing, and onwards. We loaded up a Uhaul and once again moved our most prized terrestrial stuff across the continent from Virginia to Boise. We spent time in Virginia, Idaho, Oregon, the California Redwoods, and Texas. Vagabonding from here to there. Everyone is doing well and we are grateful for it.

After being away from the political turmoil in the US for almost a year, it seems clear that what divides us is nowhere near as strong as what units us. I hope the next year brings out the best in our country. I may be a naturalist at heart, I may look to real science to understand the world, but I believe in man/womankind's ability to care for each other across borders and cultures. We are all a part of this, we affect nature and it affects us.

Now back in Grenada, we are surrounded by a mishmash of ex-pats from all over the world. Each morning on the cruiser net, we hear sailors from Germany, Britain, France, Asia, Spain, Italy, Canada, South Africa, and of course the United States. They all help each other as needed and get together to socialize - probably more than is healthy. The true locals are primarily the descendants of ex-slaves. They take us in and find enterprising ways to make their lives rich.  Everyone seems to enjoy their beautiful island. For the most part, everyone set politics aside to be human and humane with each other.

After a week of adjusting back to heat and a rolling boat, we are enjoying being back on Iolair. In another week she'll be ready to take us north through the Leeward islands for more adventures. In March, we plan on making a 4 day crossing to Bonaire. Once there, we'll spend a few months diving. It has been a long term dream of ours to see the marine beauty of Bonaire. We plan on hosting Zac, Nan, Chris, and our friends Dick and Julie for some of the best diving in the world.  I hope these reefs are still around for our future generations to enjoy.
