Petersburg, not Saint Petersburg

Petersburg has charm. Wrangell has utility. Petersburg is an old Norwegian community of fishermen. There are three large docks full of commercial fishing boats. Three different fish processing warehousing. The fishing boats include seiners, crabbers, trollers, gill netters, and long liners. They catch everything from shrimp, crab, halibut, rockfish, and salmon. I'm probably missing some other fish or two. Iolair is borrowing a slip from a fishing boat...so we are right in the middle of all the preparations and deliveries.

Within a few minutes of tying up the boat, we hit the bakery - phenomenal.  I think we ate out most nights. Petersburg is a cute town that seems to attract more young people than a typical fishing town. Good food, a couple of grocery stores, nice hiking, a few good hardware/marine shops, and all just a 1/4 mile from your boat. We added our name to the waitlist for a slip here. Supposedly the city is building a large boat yard south of town about 4 miles. That would mean Petersburg beats Wrangell....sorry Wrangell. But we are happy with Wrangell for a while; the wait could be 1-2 years for a permanent slip here.
