Three / Forty Six Hundreths

August 14th -20th

On our sail back from Roque, we picked a few of Maine's 4600 islands for a visit. We now have a better understanding of why people come back to this area so many times.  You can spend your whole boating lifetime exploring the Maine coast.  One season is a pretty lame attempt on our part, but we will not forget these special places.  Kel and I decided on a goal when we arrived - "we'll always spend at least 2 days at each of the spots we choose to visit".

Many of the islands are privately owned, but the owners allow visitors to hike and explore their beaches.  It's a wonderful local experience.  Everyone walks or rides a bike. Elliot, a 5 year old boy, sells art for a dollar in his yard.  The churches are simple.  The postmaster has a nineteen year old cat named "Zipcode."
