Floating Tennis Shoes in Desolation Sound

These are different animals. It is high season here in Desolation Sound and every anchorage is full of boats. Boats of all shapes and sizes come up here from Vancover,BC. Honestly, it is kind of like a marine version of a US National Park like Yosemite. It is only a half-a-day away for the bigger motor boats. Some of these boats remind us of giant, floating tennis shoes. You know, the really ugly, big, modern high-top kind. Then as an afterthought, they enclose in clear plastic the top deck - 20 feet off the water. We can only image how much room they have inside, but why would anyone would buy such an ugly boat? These boats often run their generators full-time. Some anchorages look like white walls of “tennies” humming along powering every imaginable modern inconvenience. I suppose I’m being a snob, but we don’t need that. We’ve found some more secluded spots away form the wild, sun-burnt vacationers in their floating shoe stores. That said, the water is warm, the sun is shining, and they are having fun. Sometime in early June or late September, we will come back here. Desolation Sound is spectacular with views of high covered snow capped peaks from countless little rock coves. We miss the Broughton’s, but we are also ready to slowly get back to the slip in Blaine. There are some cool stops along the way, and we want to see a little more of Mount Baker.
