Ford's Terror
Not a lot of words to describe this journey, I think the photos will do it justice. What I will say is Ford's Terror is aptly named after the sailor that went in at slack water and got stuck for 6 hours as the rapid roared. He got out 6 hours later. We made it through carefully with some tense moments and white knuckles. At one point our depth read 9 feet. Iolair needs 6.5 feet to float. Once inside it was like we had the whole Yosemite Valley all to ourselves. This place really makes you feel humble and insignificant. We are the only boat here since we are almost a month ahead of most Alaska cruising boats. We anchored in 95 feet of water off a 1/4 mile long waterfall. We can see mountains out of every hatch and portlight in the boat. Kelly thinks all the elves in the Lord of Rings must live here. It's Rivendell. We've seen a lot of anchorages, and I don't like to compare them, but this is a uniquely, special and wild place.
