Kwatsi Bay, Tribune Channel

Had a great day yesterday in Simoom Sound. We were the only boat around for most the day, and we watched a black bear and two cubs patrol the shoreline. Also saw an enormous bull sealion catching fish around the boat and in the sound. It was a great spot. Moved up the Tribune channel today. We could have gone up and touched the sheer granite walls and Iolair would still have been in 300 feet of water. Sunny and clear skies for the past week. Kwatsi Bay has a gorgeous view of snow capped mountains. About 50 dolphins were in the Bay when we arrived. They travel amazingly fast and come clear out of the water. After fishing in the bay, the dolphins charged out at full speed. The Bay itself has a rocky bottom and the anchor just dragged without catching. An old abandoned marina sits in one corner, and we have tied up to the dock. No caretakers so we’ll stay on the dock. A couple ran the marina with their kids, but the kids went off to civilization. We heard the husband died and it has since sold. Several of the old, local marinas have turned into high-end, fly-in lodges. There is a hike up to a waterfall that we’ll check out tomorrow.
