Tracey Cove - we need new socks!

We enjoyed watching a black bear eating crabs at low tide in Nimmo Bay. We had the whole Bay to ourselves for most of the stay. A team of Guardians stopped by to ask if we had seen any jumpers (Coho Salmon). Guardians are First Nation (Indian) protectors of the wilderness. They hiked up the stream at the head of the bay to set up hair snares. In short, a bear walks by and the snare gets a little hair sample. The hair sample is sent to a DNA lab, and they use the evidence to track specific bears. They explained that multiple bears would arrive here for the salmon runs in August. Evidently a Grizzly was waiting around eating berries until the salmon arrive. No grizzlies spotted by us. Today, we moved over to Tracey Cove. We will head out in the morning across Queen Charlotte Strait to Port McNeil - freshwater, clean laundry, phone service, the internet, world news, and maybe new socks.
