Simoom Sound, McIntosh Bay

After watching some more humpbacks in Queen Charlotte Strait, we traveled through a series of narrow passages in the Benjamin Island Group. Old Passage was about as wide as the boat at quite shallow in spots but we were able to get through on the high tide. Our goal was Simoom Sound. Anchored at the head of the sound last night. The water is warm enough up here to swim in, and we accidentally spooked some mother seals and their pups from a rock. They were just on the other side of the rock in the middle of the sound we had chosen for a swimming hole. We moved this morning to McIntosh Bay, half way down the sound. The scenery here is spectacular. Small rocky islets on both sides, and high steep mountains rising out of the sound. A cruiser we meet told us a story about a cougar that killed and carried away their little dog…years ago. We are on mainland BC, so cougars, bears, and even wolves live in these mountains. We’d love to see any of them from a distance, especially since we don’t have a dog to worry about.
