2 Million Dollar Wooden Toys

In a little place called Center Harbor, the Brooklin Boat Yard builds multimillion-dollar wooden boats.  We stayed a couple of nights and had a private tour of their current project.  They were working on a 56-foot, wooden racing boat.  This is the client's second boat, ten feet longer than the last one.  It will take them 1 1/2 years to build, shaping and creating each individual piece by hand.  Each person in the yard stopped to explain what they do and answer questions.  They knew we had arrived on a workhorse cruising boat but still treated us like special guests.

The wood was pacific cedar shipped in from the northwest.  More art than boat, but still a fast racer. Maine is truly a wooden boat showcase.

Boat quotes for the day:
"I make multi-million dollar wooden toys." (Brooklin boat builder)
"Oh crap, something is leaking in there." (Kelly, No worries, she didn't mean seawater rushing in.)

Boat will look like this rendering.

Each stringer for the hull is being cold-molded from cedar strips.  Hull will be flipped over when complete.

This frame bends the wood stringers for the hull shape.

Barely fits in their workshop.

Each board will hold a stringer. They shape the hull.

  1. Collecting 6 figure donations to have them build a boat for the clan. Maybe a fundme page?
