Group Hug

Through fog and rain, we dodged lobster pots back to Rockland, Maine.  It took an hour and half to go 12 miles.

Tomorrow the boys would take off on the most dangerous part of this adventure so far - a twelve-hour car ride south through the megalopolis. We rented a car in Rockland and drove them down to the Portland Airport where they picked up another rental car for a one-way rush - first Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., and finally quite little White Stone, VA.  Overall, they'd travel 734 miles in about 12 hours by interstate.

Kel and I are very glad they were able to join us for this part of the trip. It was challenging, but also incredibly rewarding and unforgettable.

  1. We moved out of a large house onto a boat.
  2. Changed plans as a hurricane came up the Atlantic.
  3. Trained a great little boat dog.
  4. Broke and fixed many things onboard Iolair.
  5. Adjusted to cruising on a sailboat.
  6. Navigated through fog, at least 1/2 million lobster pots, and treacherous rocks.
  7. Sang songs with new friends.
  8. Flew a spinnaker in the middle of the Gulf of Maine.
  9. Adventured as a family into a new, simple, beautiful world.
  10. Shared a group hug in the cell phone waiting area at the Portland Jetport
We look forward to seeing the boys in September at their places in Harrisonburg and Eugene.  This winter, we hope to have both boys join us in the Carribean for more adventures with Iolair.  We miss you both, and Zoe, every day, but couldn't be happier for you. Go make your lives a great adventure.

And you should know, the rest of the Salty Dawg's in this rally talk about Zac, Chris, and Zoe all the time. They loved having you along.
